Essay #1 - Literacy Narrative

Essay one asked students to analyze a moment in which they developed literacy in any area of their choosing. I wrote about my experience with the language of Spanish and how I eventually learned to speak the language after a living most of my life without my father's first language.

• Learning the Language of Literacy

Writing this essay helped remind me that you never know how life may change in the future and that even situations that seem hopeless aren't always so. This assignment also particularly helped me work towards achieving the writing processes and adaptation outcome as well as the variation across context outcome. This was probably my most emotional piece, however, my least favorite essay. You can definitely see that I lean more towards informational written works through my responses to the next two essay prompts.

Essay #2 - Rhetorical Analysis

Essay two prompted students to select a short-form video and write no less than 900 words surrounding the message the content's creator is trying to convey and how they conveyed said argument. I chose to write about a Youtube short advocating to work towards solving the global hunger crisis.

My first draft for this essay was very incomplete, and I had expressed concerns over how the essay flowed, my writing's fluency, and the other's overall engagement with the piece. I received feedback on how I could complete my essay as well as how I could work towards making my points clearer. In response to my peers' constructive criticism, I worked on making the rhetorical appeals within the video even more explicit within my analysis and completed my essay with their input in mind. This was probably my favorite essay to write despite my third essay likely being the best written.

Essay #3 - Self Analysis/ Self-Portrait

Essay three asked each student who they are, where their writing processes emerged from, and how they feel they've progressed throughout this semester. I spoke on how my writing developed through my high school extracurriculars, as well as how my writing processes have improved within this course.

• Scripts to Self-Portraits: My Journey as a Writer

Essay three was also a relatively personal essay, but it was less of a snippet into my emotions and more of a description of my writing processes and the ways in which I've grown over the past few years. This essay definitely connects well to the writing and power outcome, and I explicitly describe my ability to reflect on my own writing processes and how they adapt to my writing goals. This essay is a culmination of everything I've learned in ENC 1101, and I personally feel that it is my most impressive literary work throughout this course.
